Kesha Reveals How Writing a Song Led to Her Calling Off an Engagement

Kesha is opening up about how her music helped her realize she needed to end her engagement. In a candid new interview, the Grammy-nominated artist shared she didn’t fully understand her own feelings until writing a song about them.

“I was engaged and didn’t wanna be anymore, and I didn’t even realize I was gonna break up with him until I wrote a song about it,” Kesha explained. “Then I listened back and thought, ‘Oh no, I’m gonna break up with him now.’ It led me to my truth because I can’t lie in a song.”

The “Tik Tok” singer emphasized songwriting’s honesty, stating, “Your song will suck if you lie – that’s not what it’s there for.” The revealing track, “Too Far Gone,” appeared on her 2023 album Gag Order after the engagement ended. While Kesha hasn’t named her ex-fiancé, she’s been linked to several men including health-tech entrepreneur Michael Gilvary and longtime ex Brad Ashenfelter.

Now embracing a dramatically different dating approach, Kesha admits, “I’ve dated many cool, broke hipsters with bad attitudes. I’m swinging the pendulum 180 degrees in the opposite direction.” With characteristic boldness, she declares, “I’m looking for a sugar daddy.

I want someone who owns the office building.” Unapologetic about her desires, she adds, “I love someone taking care of me, putting me on a pedestal, with yachts and planes. I’m into it and won’t feel shame about that.”

Kesha’s musical and romantic journey continues to reflect her signature authenticity, proving she remains fearlessly true to herself in art and life.
