A$AP Rocky Apologizes (Again) for 2023 Met Gala Fan Mishap in New Vogue Interview

A$AP Rocky is owning up—once more—to his accidental run-in with a fan outside the 2023 Met Gala, a moment that went viral after he facepalmed an attendee while vaulting over a barricade.

During Vogue’s “Life in Looks” segment on Tuesday (April 16), the rapper revisited 21 of his most iconic fashion moments, including his show-stopping Met Gala ensemble. But he also took time to address the chaotic pre-event incident, where he unintentionally knocked a woman’s glasses askew while trying to navigate a crowd outside The Carlyle hotel.

“I was gonna be late for the Met Gala,” Rocky explained. “I was trying to get in my room, and this poor young little lady, man, I didn’t even know that I messed up her glasses.” He then issued another apology: “To whoever that young lady was. Again, I apologize. I’m so sorry. I ain’t mean to do that, sweetheart. My fault.”

The fan, who goes by @youareasapmadz on X (formerly Twitter), had posted a selfie post-incident with the caption, “A$AP Rocky just literally jumped over me.” Rocky quickly replied, “LOL MY FAULT $WEETHEART,” and even followed her account. She jokingly responded, “I’m printing this on a t-shirt,” adding, “Why is A$AP now oomf [one of my friends]?”

Despite the pre-Gala chaos, Rocky and girlfriend Rihanna made a grand entrance at the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”-themed event. The rapper turned heads in a red plaid high-low kilt layered over bedazzled wide-leg jeans, paired with a dark blazer, white shirt, tie, and sunglasses—a look he described as an exaggerated homage to Lagerfeld’s signature style.

“Sometimes I’m just embodying that spirit,” he told Vogue. “We kind of wanted to exaggerate the kilt a little bit so it could feel more grand. I was just like, ‘Man, I’m going full throttle today.’”

Rocky also playfully referenced Michael Jackson and Lagerfeld’s love of accessories, saying, “We gonna do one glove. We gonna do some Michael Jackson s—, you know, we want all of the belts like Karl.” He concluded, “This is when over-accessorizing goes right. This is how you do it.”

Between the fashion flashbacks and the long-overdue apology, Rocky proved once again that even his mishaps come with charm—and a little extra flair.
