David Steven Cohen, a celebrated animation writer best known for his work on the iconic Cartoon Network series Courage the Cowardly Dog, has passed away. Cohen played a crucial role in shaping the show’s eerie, surreal, and emotionally resonant storytelling, which captivated audiences and left a lasting legacy in children’s animation.

While Courage the Cowardly Dog was created by John R. Dilworth, Cohen joined the writing team in its first season and later became head writer. He penned some of the show’s most memorable episodes across seasons 2, 3, and 4, including fan favorites like Klub Katz, 1000 Years of Courage, Forbidden Hat of Gold, and The Sand Whale Strikes.

His work masterfully blended horror, dark comedy, and heartfelt moments, proving that children’s programming could embrace fear-driven narratives while still resonating emotionally.
