Sam Woods, the daughter of golf legend Tiger Woods, has always carved her own path, refusing to let her father’s towering legacy define her. While many expected her to follow in Tiger’s footsteps, Sam has chosen a different route—one that reflects her unique passions and ambition
Sports have always been a significant part of Sam’s life, but her heart lies on the soccer field, not the golf course. As a defensive powerhouse and team captain, she recently led The Benjamin School to its first-ever Florida state championship. On March 1, Sam played a pivotal role in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, capping off her high school athletic career with a triumphant finish.
Now, Sam is stepping into a new chapter—one focused on academics rather than athletics. This fall, she will attend Stanford University, the same school her father attended. However, while Tiger’s time at Stanford revolved around golf, Sam is pursuing her interests in psychology and biology.
“She’s going to Stanford in the fall, so everything is really trending,” Tiger confirmed in an interview with Golf Digest. Despite Stanford’s renowned golf program, Sam has no plans to join it. Instead, she’s embracing a future filled with labs, lectures, and academic exploration.
Sam’s decision underscores an important truth: being a Woods doesn’t mean being a golfer. She’s proving that the family name can stand for excellence in any field. While her younger brother, Charlie, is embracing the pressure of carrying on the Woods golf legacy, Sam has chosen to follow her own passions—and Tiger couldn’t be prouder.
Sam and Tiger share a strong bond, though it wasn’t built on golf. Growing up, Sam often felt the absence of her father due to his demanding career. However, over the years, they’ve found other ways to connect. Whether caddying for him at the PNC Championship or delivering a heartfelt speech at his Hall of Fame induction, Sam has always been a steadfast supporter of her dad.
Congratulations, Sam, on entering Stanford.
