Rising Star Doechii Crowned Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year: A Historic Year for the Her.

Doechii, the rising star in the rap scene, has been crowned Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, joining an elite group of iconic artists like Taylor Swift, SZA, Lady Gaga, and last year’s recipient, Karol G.

This prestigious honor comes just a month after she made history by winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album, becoming only the third woman ever to achieve this feat.

During her emotional acceptance speech at the Grammys, Doechii couldn’t hold back her tears. “This category was introduced in 1989,” she began, her voice trembling. “Only two women had won before me—Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. Wait, no,” she corrected herself with a smile, “three women now. Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii.”

On March 29, Doechii will be celebrated as Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, an event that has previously honored legends such as Madonna, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande. This recognition solidifies her place among music’s most influential figures.

In 2024, Doechii’s breakout mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, was hailed by The Associated Press as one of the year’s best albums.

The project showcased her versatility, seamlessly blending the soulful vibes of R&B with the sharp, incisive edge of her rap flows. It was a testament to her ability to push boundaries and captivate listeners across genres.

“Doechii is a force of nature in pop culture,” said Hannah Karp, Editor-in-Chief of Billboard, in a statement. “This year, she made history as the third woman to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album, captivating fans worldwide with her electrifying performances, raw lyrics, and one-of-a-kind style.

We’re thrilled to honor her and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.”
