Nearly a year after welcoming their son, Kareem Kenkaide “KK” Haynes, Ashanti is still glowing with the joys of motherhood—and she’s not ruling out expanding her family further.
The Grammy-winning singer, who recently celebrated her first anniversary with husband Nelly, shared her thoughts on parenting, marriage, and the possibility of adding another child to their family.
“I feel amazing, incredibly blessed, and humbled,” Ashanti revealed in an exclusive interview. “My life has completely transformed for the better.
I feel full, like my cup is overflowing.” The “Foolish” singer, who has been balancing motherhood with her upcoming film No Address, set to release on February 28, expressed her desire to grow her family. “We’re definitely going to add more kids,” she said with a smile. “If I had to choose, I’d love a girl to balance things out.
Right now, I’m outnumbered in the house, so a little girl would be perfect.”
Ashanti and Nelly, who rekindled their romance in 2023 after an on-and-off relationship spanning over a decade, have embraced their journey as a family. Reflecting on their reconnection, Ashanti shared, “We were together for 11 years, then we went through a phase where we couldn’t stand each other.
But eventually, we found our way back to each other.” She emphasized the importance of timing, calling their reunion “divine.” “It was surreal,” she added. “Those feelings I thought were gone just came rushing back. It was unexpected but beautiful.”
Nelly, too, has spoken about their renewed relationship, describing it as unplanned but destined. “It wasn’t something we set out to do,” the rapper explained during a 2023 interview. “Sometimes, being apart helps you understand each other better.”
He expressed his commitment to making their marriage last, stating, “My goal is to die married. When I made that vow, I meant it—this is forever.”
