Don Johnson is standing by his longtime friend Bruce Willis during the actor\u2019s ongoing struggle with dementia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 75-year-old Miami Vice<\/em> star opened up about their close bond and Willis\u2019 health challenges in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/em> while promoting his new ABC series, Doctor Odyssey<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019re best of friends, and he\u2019s having a little bit of a struggle right now,\u201d Johnson shared. \u201cI take this moment to send him love.\u201d Willis, who will turn 70 on March 19, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in February 2023, following an earlier aphasia diagnosis in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Johnson also reflected on their decades-long friendship, recalling how he helped Willis land his first TV role on Miami Vice<\/em> before Willis rose to fame on Moonlighting<\/em> alongside Cybill Shepherd. \u201cIt was his first episodic TV role, before Moonlighting<\/em>,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI knew him from New York he was funny, and we\u2019d hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Johnson revealed that he personally recommended Willis to the casting director of Miami Vice<\/em>. \u201cI said, \u2018There\u2019s a guy over here who\u2019s a struggling actor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n You should bring him in he\u2019s really funny, and I think he\u2019d be good,\u2019\u201d Johnson recalled. Willis was cast in the role, and Johnson joked, \u201cI didn\u2019t have to stick my neck out that far because he was obviously talented. My instincts were pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a touching full-circle moment, Willis\u2019 daughter, Rumer Willis, recently appeared on Johnson\u2019s new show, Doctor Odyssey<\/em>. Rumer, 36, provided an update on her father\u2019s health during a February 3 appearance on the UK talk show Loose Women<\/em>, saying, \u201cHe\u2019s doing really well.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n She also spoke about how her family\u2014including mom Demi Moore and sisters Scout and Tallulah\u2014has come together to support Willis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe way we rally around each other is so beautiful,\u201d Rumer shared. \u201cWe really are a unit.\u201d Moore, who has remained close to Willis since their 2000 divorce, echoed this sentiment in a recent Variety<\/em> interview, saying, \u201cWe will always be a family, just in a different form.\u201d She added, \u201cFor me, there was never a question.
