The first image of Johnny Depp in Day Drinker reveals a strikingly weathered version of the actor, his signature dark locks now fully grayed as he clutches a drink in the Lionsgate thriller.
The film marks Depp’s return to major American productions after his 2022 defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, reuniting him with frequent co-star Penélope Cruz for their fourth collaboration.
Directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man), the nautical noir follows Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline as a yacht bartender who forms a dangerous bond with Depp’s mysterious guest, only to become entangled with Cruz’s criminal figure.
The Spain-based production—which began filming this week—also features Elite actors Manu Ríos and Arón Piper among its international cast.
“We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell,” said Webb, fresh off directing Disney’s upcoming Snow White remake. “This is gonna be fun.”
For Depp, the project continues his gradual Hollywood resurgence following European films like Jeanne du Barry and his directorial effort Modì.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star and Cruz—who previously shared screens in Blow, On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express—now dive into darker waters with this twisty thriller produced by the team behind the John Wick franchise.
