A devastating early-morning collision on Interstate 95 in Georgia took the lives of 27-year-old Reagan Dougan and her four young children Sunday. The family was traveling from their new home in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Florida to reunite with Dougan’s husband when their rented Jeep SUV collided with a sedan near McIntosh County around 6 a.m., according to Georgia State Patrol.
The horrific impact sent their vehicle into a guardrail before it burst into flames, killing Dougan and her children—a 9-year-old boy, 4-year-old boy, 3-month-old son, and 2-year-old daughter—at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle survived and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Neighbors in the family’s Raleigh cul-de-sac remembered Dougan as a warm presence who had just settled into the quiet neighborhood months earlier. “She always had a smile on her face. The kids were always happy,” neighbor Jason Flores told WRAL, adding that the family’s absence would leave a profound void. The fatal crash forced a four-hour closure of I-95 southbound as authorities investigated the scene.
Georgia State Trooper Christopher Ashdown confirmed the victims’ identities to ABC News, noting that Dougan’s husband has been notified of the unimaginable loss. Authorities continue investigating the circumstances of the collision.
