Edwin Arroyave Stands By Estranged Wife Teddi Mellencamp Amid Cancer Battle

Despite their separation last October after 13 years of marriage, Edwin Arroyave hasn’t hesitated to support Teddi Mellencamp through her stage 4 melanoma battle. The 47-year-old appeared on “The Eds” podcast April 3, explaining his unwavering commitment to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum.

“No matter what, I will always love Teddy—she’s been a big part of my life,” said Arroyave, who has been actively involved in her care. “Taking care of people is just what I do. It wasn’t even a question; it was reflexive. My focus is helping her feel confident and reminding her she’s not alone.”

Mellencamp, 43, revealed in February that her melanoma—first diagnosed in 2022—had spread to her lungs and brain, requiring immediate surgery. By late March, doctors discovered four new brain tumors. “I’m fighting for my life,” she told Us Weekly in a recent cover story, “but also for my family’s life and everyone I love.”

The ex-couple, who share children Slate (12), Cruz (10), and Dove (5), have prioritized transparency with their kids. Arroyave delivers medical updates personally to avoid them learning distressing news online. “I don’t sugarcoat it,” he said, explaining how he balances honesty with reassurance about their mother’s prognosis. “Kids are resilient—they’re thriving in school and sports despite everything.”

Mellencamp has adopted a similar approach, though she’s stopped using her longtime mantra “Mommy always comes back” with the children. “They know I’m fighting as hard as I can,” she shared, “but I won’t promise what I can’t guarantee.”

As Mellencamp continues treatment, Arroyave’s steadfast presence underscores their enduring bond beyond romance. “This is why I’m confident she’ll make it through,” he said—a sentiment echoing the family’s determined hope.
