Vivian Jenna Wilson, the 20-year-old daughter of Elon Musk, has publicly criticized her father, accusing him of performing a “definitely a Nazi salute” at two rallies in January and labeling his actions within the federal government as “fucking cringe.”
In a candid interview with Teen Vogue, Wilson, who transitioned as a minor, expressed her commitment to advocating for transgender rights amid ongoing attacks on the community by figures like Donald Trump.
Wilson, who legally removed “Musk” from her name in 2022, described her father as “cold,” “uncaring,” and “narcissistic,” recalling his harsh treatment of her for displaying feminine traits during her childhood.
She also addressed Musk’s controversial comments about her transition, which he referred to as “deadnaming” and used to justify his crusade against what he calls the “woke mind virus.”
Reflecting on her decision to transition, Wilson shared the emotional toll of living in the closet, stating, “I was constantly having mental breakdowns in the middle of class. I could not get through days. I didn’t want to wake up, I didn’t want to do anything. I just wanted to rot, pretty much.” She emphasized the importance of gender-affirming care for minors, particularly puberty blockers, and condemned the demonization of transgender youth and their families.
Wilson, now a student in Tokyo, expressed fear over the potential loss of access to medical care for transgender individuals, citing Trump’s policies targeting the community, including bans on transgender military service and participation in women’s sports. She credited her mother, Justine Musk, for her unwavering support but revealed she has little contact with her father’s side of the family.
Despite Musk’s prominence as a billionaire and his influence in the Trump administration, Wilson insists he holds no significant place in her life. “People thrive off of fear. I’m not giving anyone that space in my mind,” she said. “The only thing that gets to live free in my mind are drag queens.”
Wilson’s outspoken stance highlights the personal and political divides within her family while amplifying her advocacy for transgender rights in the face of growing conservative opposition.
