Mae Whitman’s longtime friend and Parenthood co-star Lauren Graham recently confirmed that Carlos Valdes, Whitman’s Up Here co-star, is the father of her baby son, Miles. The revelation came during Graham’s appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on March 10, where she gushed about Whitman and Valdes’ relationship.
Graham, 57, shared that Whitman, 36, and Valdes, 35, are currently in New York, where Valdes is starring in the Broadway production of Hadestown. “Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it,” Graham said, praising Valdes’ performance.
She added that Whitman is now in Ireland for work, taking baby Miles with her.
Whitman and Valdes welcomed their son, Miles, in August 2024. Whitman named her baby after her best friend and Parenthood co-star, Miles Heizer, who played her on-screen brother, Drew Holt.
While neither Whitman nor Valdes has publicly commented on their relationship status, Valdes recently opened up about the challenges of balancing fatherhood with his Broadway career.
“Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a dad, a relatively new dad,” Valdes said. “It’s my personal preference that I don’t share more beyond that, but being a Broadway dad… let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart! This life is pretty unforgiving when it comes to balancing it with parenting.”
Valdes credited fellow Hadestown actor Jordan Fisher, who previously played the role of Orpheus, for offering invaluable advice on juggling fatherhood and performing.
“We had our little sentimental ‘passing of the torch’ conversation, and one of the many things he imparted to me was that as dads, we have a superpower in playing Orpheus,” Valdes explained. “We can allow the fruits of that experience to color our approach to this very childlike character in a natural and informed way.”
