Gabrielle Union has opened up about how her perspective on splitting finances 50/50 with her husband, Dwyane Wade, has evolved.
In 2023, her comments about equally sharing expenses sparked online debate, especially given Dwyane’s higher net worth.
However, during a recent podcast appearance, Gabrielle revealed she no longer adheres to the 50/50 model, explaining that trauma from being sexually assaulted at 19 led to her need for control and independence.
After working on the emotionally intense series Truth Be Told, Gabrielle began addressing her PTSD and realized her anxiety and hyper-independence were trauma responses.
This led to a heartfelt conversation with Dwyane, where she admitted she couldn’t always contribute equally and needed his support. While she still contributes to their finances, she now pays around 35% of the mortgage instead of 50%.
Gabrielle emphasized that this shift has brought them closer, allowing her to embrace vulnerability and feel secure in their marriage.
Her story highlights the importance of addressing trauma, redefining partnership, and leaning on loved ones during personal growth.
