Simon Fisher-Becker, the talented actor celebrated for his roles in Harry Potter and Doctor Who, has died. He lived for 63 years. His passing was confirmed by his manager, Kim Barry of Jaffrey Management, as well as his husband, Tony.
Barry shared a heartfelt statement, reflecting on their 15-year friendship and professional relationship.
“Today, I lost not only a client but a close personal friend,” she said. “I’ll never forget the excitement in his voice when I called to tell him he’d been cast as Dorium Maldovar in Doctor Who.” She added, “Simon was more than an actor—he was a writer, a storyteller, and a captivating public speaker.
He was kind, gracious, and genuinely interested in everyone he met. My deepest condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces, nephews, and his countless fans.”
Fisher-Becker’s career spanned film, television, and theater. He is perhaps best remembered for his role as the Fat Friar, Hufflepuff House’s resident ghost, in the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the UK).
He also gained acclaim for his portrayal of Dorium Maldovar in Seasons 5 and 6 of Doctor Who.
On Sunday, Tony, Fisher-Becker’s husband, shared the heartbreaking news on social media. “Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon, Simon passed away.” He added, “I’ll be keeping this account open for a while, but I’m not sure if I’ll post again. Thank you for your support.”
Beyond his iconic roles, Fisher-Becker appeared in numerous British television classics, including Puppy Love, One Foot in the Grave, The Bill, Love Soup, and Afterlife. He also had a role in the 2012 Oscar-winning film Les Misérables.
