Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist Maria Shriver, is making waves in the entertainment industry with his standout performance in The White Lotus Season 3.
However, despite the critical acclaim he’s receiving for his portrayal of the privileged and provocative character Saxton Ratliff, Schwarzenegger admits it’s frustrating to be labeled a “nepo baby.”
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he addressed the challenges of being perceived as someone who relies solely on his famous last name, emphasizing the hard work and dedication he’s poured into his craft.
Schwarzenegger’s character, Saxton Ratliff, is the charismatic yet morally ambiguous son of a corporate criminal, known for his relentless flirting and unabashed confidence—even when sharing a hotel room with his younger brother.
The role has quickly positioned Schwarzenegger as one of the season’s breakout stars. Yet, the actor is no stranger to the skepticism that comes with being the child of Hollywood royalty. “I know there are people who’ll say I only got this role because of who my dad is,” he acknowledged. “They’re not seeing that I’ve had 10 years of acting classes, put on school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end, or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on.”
While he admits that the criticism can be frustrating and even make him wish, momentarily, that he didn’t carry such a recognizable last name, Schwarzenegger remains grounded in gratitude. “I would never trade my life with anyone,” he said.
“I’m very fortunate to have the life and family that I have, the parents I have, and the lessons and values they’ve instilled in me.”
Far from resting on the laurels of his family’s legacy, Schwarzenegger is committed to honing his craft. He revealed that he continues to take weekly acting classes, constantly seeking ways to “learn and grow” as a performer.
His passion for acting was ignited early on, thanks to his father’s influence. “Going to set with my dad, that’s where my first love for acting came from,” he shared. “He would always pull me out of school early. I would get to go to Universal Studios, and I’d watch him go in as Dad and come out as Mr. Freeze. I would sit there all day and just be fascinated with everything about film.”
As The White Lotus Season 3 continues to captivate audiences, Schwarzenegger’s performance is proving that he’s more than just a famous last name.
With a blend of raw talent, relentless dedication, and a deep respect for the art of acting, he’s carving out his own path in the industry.
New episodes air Sundays at 9 pm ET on HBO and Max, offering viewers a chance to see Schwarzenegger shine in one of the year’s most talked-about series.
