Comedian Paul Rodriguez Denies Drug Possession Charges

The 69-year-old comedy legend has been released after being cited for misdemeanor drug possession during a Friday traffic stop in Burbank, but maintains his complete innocence in the matter. Rodriguez claims he was asleep in the passenger seat of his own car when officers allegedly slapped him awake during what he describes as a “power trip” by a Caucasian officer.

According to Rodriguez’s account to TMZ, the narcotics found during the stop belonged to his female friend who was driving the vehicle. He insists the driver confessed ownership to officers, but says he was arrested anyway and alleges excessive force was used during the process. His attorney Bobby Samini has gone further, calling the arrest a civil rights violation and vowing to prove Rodriguez’s innocence in court.

Burbank PD confirmed Rodriguez was cited and released for misdemeanor possession, with the case being forwarded to the city attorney for review. The driver remains in custody on unrelated outstanding warrants. Police have not yet responded to Rodriguez’s specific allegations about officer conduct during the arrest.

The comedian is reportedly considering filing a formal complaint as his legal team prepares to challenge the charges. The case may ultimately hinge on body camera footage from the officers involved, which could shed light on Rodriguez’s claims of misconduct. This incident raises broader questions about police procedures during traffic stops, particularly when involving public figures.
